CIRCULARITY

REDUCE WASTE

Product Design and Support to Reduce Waste

During the manufacturing phase of Stego barrier films, all production waste is collected and recycled as a post-industrial resource at nearby specialty recycling facilities. In fact, this production waste is part of what makes up the outer protective shroud on our films. We have a circularity loop built right into our film manufacturing!

Ecosystem Waste Diversion The Stego ecosystem, outside of production, also generates potential waste. This generally consists of Stego products used for QA/QC testing, company training, or trials at the Stego Technical Center. Many times, this is product that cannot be sold into the marketplace. None theless, we have put processes into place to begin diverting this potential waste from landfills. When possible, we first look to donate usable product, especially to nonprofit organizations that support the built environment. In 2022, we began donating in-spec Stego products cycled through the Stego Tech Center to a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

We designed our barrier films with roll sizes that maximize installation efficiency for their intended applications. For our customers, especially end user installers, this helps reduce film waste during the installation process. Even more, our customers have access to installation tools, resources, and our technical Sales team to help estimate product quantities and install our barrier systems efficiently. This includes Stego Installation Support, a free service for commercial project teams designed to help ensure effective vapor protection via unrivaled assistance at every step of the construction process — from design to final installation.

In addition, we have identified local hard-to-recycle plastic centers that facilitate proper recy cling of our barrier and packaging films at a larger scale.

Our understanding and efforts in product circularity demonstrate that the true value of Stego products goes beyond their upfront cost and primary uses. Even more, a circularity perspective will continue to provide a lens through which we seek to develop and optimize our products and packaging.

Most components of our Beast ® Concrete Accessories line are designed to be reused multiple times (and can be recycled at their end of life). In August 2018, we switched from paper and plastic packaging for Beast Hooks to a reusable 5-gallon pail.
